Wrestlers, Odunayo Adekuoroye and Blessing Oborodudu have added to Nigeria’s Gold medal haul at the ongoing Commonwealth Games. Adekoroye defeated her Indian opponent Anshu Malik 6-4 in the 57kg Freestyle category. The two-time reigning Commonwealth Games champion was better than Malik who had won her earlier two rounds within a minute.

The 2018 Commonwealth champion defeated her opponent 6-4 in the final to successfully defend the crown she won in Gold Coast four years ago.

En route to the final, the reigning African champion defeated Canada’s Hannah Taylor in the semis in a swashbuckling 10-0 victory.

The win further increased Nigeria’s gold medals so far to seven, with more medals still on the offing for the nation.

In a similar vein, Blessing Oborududu also joined the league of two- time Commonwealth Games Champion.

Oborududu defeated Linda Morais in the 68kg women’s category final at the ongoing Commonwealth Games in Birmingham.

Esther Omolayo Kolawole won the bronze medal in the 62kg event.

The Nigerian wrestler defeated Abble Fountain 10-0 in the third place tie at the National Exhibition Centre in Birmingham.

Enroute her bronze medal win, Kolawole defeated Sachini Weraduwage in the quarter finals but lost by 10-4 to Canada’s A. Godinez Gonzalez in the semi finals.

With this victory, Kolawole joined Odunayo Adekuoroye as one of the wrestlers that made the country proud in Birmingham.

Nigeria now occupied the 9th position on the medals table with six gold, three silver and six bronze medals.
