The Edo State Commissioner of Police, Danmallam Abubakar has announced that operatives of his command have arrested 13 suspects in connection with the killing of a DPO and three other officers at Afuze police station.
He disclosed this in Benin while parading a total of 120 suspects arrested for various crimes ranging from kidnapping, cultism, armed robbery and murder.
Among the 120 suspects paraded by the police was an army deserter, Private Mbawa Lucky. He was paraded for cultism.
Danmallam, when asked to give detailed information about their arrest, said such could not be given at the moment until those who were at large were brought to book.
“On March 12, 2019, some unknown criminals and cowards who went to hide under cover of darkness, attacked Afuze police station, killed the DPO and three others.
“If you recall my press conference with the executive governor of Edo State, Governor Obaseki, I promised the public that we would do everything within the ambit of the law to detect and apprehend the criminals.
“We succeeded in the sense that we have 13 suspects in our custody.
“The reason I do not want to parade them is that they are still giving useful information and I do not want anything that will jeopardise our investigations but we made arrest and they have confessed to have participated in the operation where they killed the DPO and three others,” he said.
