“We will go beyond the group stage and possibly go as far as the quarter final.”

That was how former Eagles hitman Victor Agali reacted to the Russia 2018 World Cup draw on Friday.

Agali who won bronze with the team at the Mali 2002 Nations Cup told Sunday Sunsports that Nigeria should be able to come out of her group, given what we saw the boys do during the African qualifiers.

It would be noted that Eagles qualified for the World Cup even with a game to play against Algeria.

Agali who is now a member of the Eagles technical crew said what Eagles need to survive Argentina would boil down to the ability of the defenders putting Messi in check.

“The match against Argentina is the star match of the group. The challenge is to put Messi in check. Once Messi is caged, Argentina becomes ordinary,” Agali said.

He stressed that Eagles should however think less of Argentina and concentrate on how to beat Croatia and Iceland.

“For me, Croatia is the trouble in that group. If we beat Croatia and secure maximum points against Iceland, then we can go into the match against Argentina to catch fun.”

Going by the Friday draw, Eagles would start the World Cup campaign against Croatia after which they slug it out with Iceland and then face Argentina in the last group game.
