chief Moshood Kashimawo Olawale Abiola, the presumed winner of the June 12, 1993, presidential elections, died on July 7, 1998.
While in incarceration, Abiola was said to have been moved around to different places especially towards the time he was to be released. At a time he was kept in a house in Zone 5 in the Federal Capital Tertitory. He equally was taken to a place where even Abacha was not aware off.
According to a source who pleaded anonymity, Abiola’s problem started when he was moved to Aguda House, inside the Presidential Villa, a week before he received his last visitors before he was rushed to State House Medical Centre, where he died.
The source said at about 4pm on that fateful day, the news of his movement from Aguda House to Aso clinic filtered in.
Aguda House, where Abiola last stayed before he was rushed to the hospital when his health deteriorated, is now the official residence of the Vice President. It was initially designed to be the official residence of the Chief Justice of Nigeria (CJN).
Another official residence is under construction to the Vice President but the current occupant, Yemi Osinbajo has said he won’t live there, saying he is comfortable with Aguda House.
Former President Goodluck Jonathan was once a resident of Aguda House while he was the vice president to Late President Shehu Musa. Yar’adua.
