Governor of Akwa Ibom State, Udom Emmanuel, has reiterated his administration’s resolve to promote sports in schools to serve as a platform for talents discovery.
Gov. Emmanuel who made the call at Tower of Ivory Schools, Ediene Abak, in Abak Local Government Area, during the 6th Inter – House sports competition of the institution, said promotion of sports would also sharpen the mental alertness of pupils and students.
The sports loving governor also stressed the importance of sports and games in schools, noting that exercises were capable of increasing self-esteem and mental alertness of the students, while preparing them for career opportunities in the money spinning world of sports.
He commended the school’s authority for providing excellent sporting facilities that would facilitate the impartation of knowledge as well as enhance sports development while hoping  that the school would attract trophies at national and international competitions due to early exposure of the students to modern facilities.
He used the occasion to stress the need to teach indigenous languages in schools to save them from extinction and promote rich cultural values.
The Governor directed the Ministry of Education to ensure that vernacular was taught in all public schools beginning from the next school session.
