The Tiv community in Nasarawa State has declared that Governor Umaru Tanko Al-makura has executed more projects beneficial to their communities than any other government in the state.
President, Tiv Youth Organisation in Nasarawa state, Comrade Peter Ahemba, who also said Governor Al-Makura’s excellent performance stems from his love for the people of the state, particularly the Tiv people, adding that Tiv community in the state remains great beneficiaries of the massive road construction initiated by the governor in the state.
The position of the Tivs was contained in a congratulatory message to the governor on the just concluded Eid-el-Kabir celebration and also signed by the President Tiv Development Association (TIDA), in the state, Mr. Bernard Kyeghna, a copy of which was made available to newsmen, in Lafia, on Wednesday.
The messages observed that the rural development programmes of the state government has greatly benefitted the Tiv people who live mostly in the rural areas.
It said the Tiv community was happy that the Al-Makura’s administration has given them a sense of belonging by the appointment of its sons and daughters into various government positions, pointing out that by so doing, the governor has endeared himself to the Tiv people.
They appealed to the state government to create chiefdom for the Tiv people, stressing that they were the only people without a representative at the state traditional council.
The letter read in parts: “As a community we are particularly grateful that your administration has created a sense of involvement and belonging among our people by appointment of Tiv sons and daughters not only in your cabinet but other key positions in your government. No doubt your abundant sense of justice, equity and fairness will continue to endear you to the Tiv people”
“Your Excellency Sir, you have become the hope of the hopeless and that is why the Tiv people like Oliver Twist, are making a passionate appeal for more appointments, building of schools in our villages and creation of Chiefdom for the Tiv people of the state who have so far remained the only people not being represented in the Traditional Council of Nasarawa State.”
