From Desmond Mgboh, Kano

The wife of the leader of the of Northern Elements Progressive Union (NEPU), the Late Mallam Aminu  Kano,  Hajiya Shatu Aminu Kano, has died.

She died on Sunday night in her Kano home at the age of 89.

Family sources told Daily Sun in Kano that the matriarch, who had been sick for some time now, was  laid to rest at the famous Dandole Cemetery, situated along Koron- Dutse area  in the state capital.

A family Source affirmed  that, “We held the funeral prayers at exactly 11 00 am this morning  after which the remains of the deceased was conveyed to the graveyard. I think she was finally buried between 11 30am and 12 00 noon this afternoon”

The funeral was attended by a host of sympathisers, relatives, associates of her late husband, as well as the state Governor, Dr Abdullahi Umar Ganduje and his  cabinet .

In his tribute, the Director, Aminu Kano Centre for Political Research and Training, Mambayya House , Bayero University Kano, Professor Haruna Wakili described the deceased as “a great woman who stood by her husband during the NEPU and PRP days”

“For us at Mambayya House, her demise is indeed a loss of a mother and a defender of the Mambayya House concept , Specifically, Mambayya House benefitted immensely from her counseling  and material donations , especially in establishing the Aminu Kano Living History  Museum” he stated.
