The Advanced Congress of Democrats (ACD), on Tuesday, elected a female, Lolo Oby Kate Okafor, as its candidate for the November 18 governorship election in Anambra State.

In a ‘yes voice vote’ the party which held its primary election at its state secretariat along Zik Avenue, Awka unanimously elected Okafor who is also an actress with Nollywood.

Okafor who until her election yesterday was the State Chairman of the party was declared winner of the primary and candidate of the party, the National Youth leader, Mr. Sam George Okpara who presided over the exercise where the female candidate was the only aspirant.

By her emergence yesterday Lolo Okafor has become the first female governorship candidate from any of the political parties for the forthcoming Anambra governorship election.

Speaking shortly after her election, Okafor said that the male had failed the people hence it was time for a woman to rule the state.

While thanking members of the ACD for trusting and choosing her, she assured that she would not disappoint if given the mandate by the people of the state.

At the party primary witnessed by officials of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and security operatives, Okafor also said that her major priority in the state would be to improve the quality of education and security.
