Hygers Igwebuike has emerged the governorship candidate of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) in the primary conducted by the faction led by Martins Agbaso.

Agbaso’s faction conducted its governorship primary yesterday at a hotel in Amaokpala, Orumba North Local Government Area of the state after police sealed off Marble Arch Hotels, Awka, where the primary was initially scheduled to hold.

Sources within the state government circles revealed that the siege on the hotel was to forestall Agbaso’s faction from using the hotel for its governorship primaries. At the time of filing this report, Police officers were yet to vacate the hotel premises.

The lockdown prompted the management of Marble Arch hotel to issue a statement dissociating its owner, Sam Okey Nwosu from the politics of the party. The hotel condemned the siege on its hotel, saying that the lock down has caused it to lose revenue.

The press statement released by the hotel states: “We have said earlier that our chairman, Chief Sam Okey Nwosu is not a politician and is not  affiliated nor has sympathy for any political party or any faction. Twice now, the police had sealed up the hotel thereby causing great loss in revenue. No political party has held any political activity in the hotel since the inception of the present administration. Chief Nwosu is strictly a businessman who answered to the call for Anambarians to bring home part of their investments. The hotel has been in existence for 17 years and had never had issues with anyone.

“We have no record of any booking by any political party, individual or other concerns. Our hotel was never  booked for any function be it political or otherwise on the said date. In the light of the invasion of our business concern for a second  time in one week  today,  we are forced to close shop for all political activities in our hotel until after Nov 18,2017 election even though we shall endure the  loss of huge revenue in the next 4 months. We hereby call on  Governor Willie Obiano and the police authorities to call off the siege on our property in the interest of fairness and good conscience.”
