Former governor of Abia State and chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Dr. Orji Uzor Kalu, has said the assignment given to the APC South-East Zonal Committee for the Anambra 2017 Governorship election headed by the former governor of old Anambra State, Chief Jim Nwobodo, has been delivered .
Kalu, who is the vice chairman said the committee had concluded their job since two weeks ago .
He made the disclosure in London while responding to questions from a group of Anambra State indigenes at the launch of ‘Igbo Community House London’ last Saturday. The Anambra indigenes, who requested for briefing on the forthcoming governorship election had queried Kalu’s presence in London while the APC governorship primary election was around the corner.
They stressed that Kalu, being a prominent member of the APC South-East committee, with the capacity to help the party win the election, was expected to be around during the primary election.
In his response, Kalu said their committee was saddled with many responsibilities, but not inclusive of the primary election.
“The national leadership of the party gave us an assignment and we have delivered the job. The report of our work was submitted about two weeks ago. If our job was to include conducting the primaries, I would have done the needful and wouldn’t be here. But presently, we are looking forward to a free and fair primaries by the party,” he explained.
The former governor also said the party has all it takes to win the November 18 election. He added that the committee members, by the virtue of the job they have done, were convinced that any candidate that emerged will be magnanimous in victory. When pressed to predict who might clinch the ticket, the business mogul said he was neither an aspirant nor a delegate to the primary election, but was sure the best candidate for the party will emerge.
