Anambra legislative crisis: APC Reps candidate demands Obiano’s impeachment

Romanus Ugwu, Abuja

An All Progressives Congress (APC) House of Representatives candidate for the 2019 general elections, Chiedu Godswill Eluemunoh, has urged members of the Anambra State House of Assembly, to impeach Governor Willie Obiano over what he described as ‘gross abuse of office’.

Speaking to newsmen, in Abuja, Eluemunoh, a former Reps member for Oyi/Ayamelum Federal Constituency, also alleged that the governor has abdicated his responsibilities by allowing his Special Assistant, Chinedu Obidigwe, to use his security details to molest Anambra State indigenes.

Asked his take on the crisis rocking the Anambra State House of Assembly, he said: “It is a very simple legislative procedure. It is a parliamentary issue. Normally, when Speakers don’t do well, they are removed. Even in my own tenure at the National Assembly, I was a member of the panel that removed the Speaker.

“We removed our Speaker, and nothing happened. It is a parliamentary matter; not that of the executive.

“The Speaker, the Deputy Speaker was in plenary, and a vote of no confidence was moved against the Speaker and out of 22 (members), 20 voted while two abstained.

“The Speaker was removed, she accepted her removal but after visiting the Secretary to the State Government, she came out to describe her removal as a charade; claiming that nothing happened.

“I am appealing to Mr. President to order the Anambra State Police Command, to lift the siege at the Assembly, so that the new Speaker can do his work.

“A new Speaker has been elected. It is a parliamentary affair. He has been elected with popular votes; he should be allowed to do his legislative functions.

“I know that the Commissioner of Police in Anambra State is a very experienced officer.

“They should lift the siege, so that the newly-elected Speaker will do his work. By besieging the Assembly Complex, they helped the former Speaker to maintain that nothing happened.

“So, I am calling on the CP Anambra State; the DSS State Director, the IGP, Mr. President to order the lifting of that siege so that the current Speaker will be able to do the job he was elected by his colleagues.

“The governor is not doing well and the speaker is allegedly shielding him. So, we are calling on these people to lift the siege, so that the Speaker can do his work. She has been removed, she has been removed.

“I want to use this opportunity to call on the members of the House of Assembly to impeach governor Obiano for abuse of power and for leaving his core mandate. He has given his security details to his Special Assistant, Chinedu Obidigwe, to be terrorising the state and he is doing is abuse of power,” he said.

Thank God that people are now aware that Gov. Obiano is a total disaster. He is a mess. It was Obi that brought this man from nowhere and he has shown that he is not worthy of his office. A look at the State capital Awka will tell you that all is not well with the State. There is a total decay of infrastructure in the State. The roads are bad and the waste management system is a mess. He has failed as a Gov, and should be shown the way out. Anambra State is in a state of decay.. Something urgent should be done to get this man out becos he is a total failure….Anambra State needs Gods help…
