Apparently impressed by the performance of Governor Willie Obiano, the royal fathers of Anambra Central Senatorial District would on June 16, 2017 honour the governor with a chieftaincy title.

The honour which appears a tactful endorsement of the governor for the November 18 governorship election would take place at the Ofalla Ground, Ifitedunu, Dunukofia Local Government Area of the state.

Announcing the event at a press briefing, Chairman of Anambra Central Traditional Rulers Forum, Igwe Emeka Ilouno, surrounded by six other monarchs representing the seven local government areas of the zone, said the conferment was in recognition of the Governor Obiano’s “sterling performance” in the state.

Ilouno maintained that Governor Obiano has made great impact in security, infrastructure, agriculture, economic growth and empowerment, just as he has been prompt in the payment of workers’ salaries and development of the rural communities.

He said, “We have never witnessed such unprecedented achievements before, and we think it is noteworthy that we confer a chieftaincy title on him to recognize his good works.

“His predecessor, Mr. Peter Obi, promised us he would give us a hardworking governor, and with what we have seen with Obiano, we are not in doubt that Obi did as he promised, because Obiano has over shoot our expectations.

“Anambra has been blessed with achievement oriented governors, from Peter Obi to Willie Obiano and we are happy with them.”

The ceremony according to the monarchs would be colourful as masquerades and different dance groups would electrify the event.
