Youths of Anambra South Senatorial District, on Thursday, demanded the immediate recall of the Senator representing their District, Dr. Andy Uba, for alleged breach of trust, mandate and electoral laws.

The youths, operating under the aegis of Dynamic Youth Organisation of Nigeria (DYON), Anambra State, which rose from a stakeholders meeting that had community leaders in attendance frowned at what they called the abysmal performance of the lawmaker in the red carpet chamber.

Consequently, the group had set up a 15-man committee to drive the process of reaching INEC and other relevant agencies to communicate them of the resolutions of the people, just as it was given a term of reference to mobilize the two-third of the registered voters in the zone to sign for the recalling of Sen. Uba as enshrined by the constitution.

The group’s position was contained in a statement signed by the state Chairman, Hon. Alex Osaka; state Secretary, Comrade Egwuatu Samuel and National Organising Secretary, Comrade Obi Egbeji and made available to newsmen in Awka.

The group claimed Sen. Uba’s sin was made worse with his recent dumping of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for the All Progressives Congress (APC) without consultations with his constituency.

The group which said it held series of painstaking consultations, sessions, interactions and deliberation with the people and electorates in the zone including, the elder statesmen,  women leaders, trade unions, student unions, religious leaders, traditional leaders and the artisans on the stewardship of Sen. Uba, insisted that the lawmaker has betrayed the confidence reposed in him.

Enumerating some of the lawmaker’s sins, the statement said, “Recent defection of Senator Andy Uba from PDP to APC without any form of consultations of notification to the members of the senatorial zone he represents at the 8th National Assembly.

“Senator Andy Uba’s representation at the National Assembly for the past seven years has never been in the interest of the electorates, rather an individual gain for himself, his family members and friends.

“Senator Andy Uba’s conducts at the National Assembly have not attracted any meaningful or developmental project. Nanka and Oko communities have been wiped out due to erosion menace in that axis where Senator Andy Uba came from but he had never shown interest on how to address the issue.

“Senator Andy Uba’s eight years in Presidency as S.A Domestic (President kitchen cabinet) to the former President, Chief Olusegun Obasanjo was nothing to reckon with in his constituency. High rate of unemployment, insecurity and under-development was high during this period and he never cared to address same as a Senator representing the same constituency for seven years now. As a kitchen cabinet to the former President Chief Olusegun Obasanjo from 1999-2007 yet not even a single soul felt his impact within the Senatorial zone.

“For his recent defect from POP to APC, we call it a total breach of trust, mandate, electoral laws and statutes, at this juncture, all the Stakeholders present agreed to move a motion for the recalling of Senator Andy Ubah who is representing Anambra South Senatorial District.”
