Anarchy brews at Enugwu Nanka Village in Nanka, Orumba North Local Government Area of Anambra State following power tussle between two registered unions in the same village.

Trouble said to have started long ago took a new dimension last month when some members of the village allegedly formed and registered with the Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC) a parallel union under the aegis of Ositadinma Development Union with Mr Godson Peters as its Chairman having earlier registered Enugwu Nanka Village Development Union.

However, Chairman of Ositadinma Development Union, Chief Emma Ezeobi in a signed statement at their lawyer’s Chambers in Onitsha told journalists that the union under his watch was the one originally registered with the CAC which he claimed that a splinter group from the union copied and registered with the same name.

Chief Ezeobi, flanked by his executive members including Dr Chibueze Ogbunankwor, Secretary; Chief Walter Ahanonu and Rev Canon Ifeanyichukwu Ezeike in the presence of their lawyer, Mr Nkem Olisa, weekend, alleged that the splinter group was being sponsored by an indigene of the area based in Enugu in Enugu State. They accused the sponsor of having the aspiration to control the affairs of Enugwu Nanka community by all means.

“The last election for the executive of Ositadinma Development Union took place in August 2021 and the winners are Chief Emma Ezeobi as the Chairman and his executive.

“The next thing we discovered last month was that these same men have registered Ositadinma Development Union which they have openly and clearly stated in court and at the police that they do not belong to and at the same time have also registered their own union which is Enugwu Nanka Village Development Union, ” Ezeobi’s group alleged.

Chief Ezeobi said his union had written a petition to the CAC asking it to delist Ositadinma Development Union as registered by the splinter group, according to him in order for the lawful executive to register their association after a thorough investigation into their complaint.
