Twenty suspected armed robbers, kidnappers, murderers, drug abusers and thieves have been by Oyo State Police Command. Arms and ammunition were recovered from their hideouts along Lagos-Ibadan Expressway.

Commissioner of Police, Mr Adebowale Williams, said: “Operatives arrested some armed robbers, kidnappers and murderers in Ibadan. The suspects confessed to their offences and they have been investigated and charged to court.

“The command redeployed some of the tactical teams to the flashpoints. We raided their hideouts especially on the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway.

There has been constant patrol on the highway. The suspects will soon be charged to court.

“The command has trained and re-trained over 344 policemen to prepare them on how to use crowd control for the preparation of the election.

They were trained by Police Mobile Mopol 4 to enable them face any challenge ahead of the 2023 election.

“They have been lectured on how to conduct themselves before, during and after the election. They have been told to apply professionalism and imbibe the concept of community policing as advocated by the IGP, Usman Baba Alkali.

“The command in furtherance of its proactive security responsiveness met with stakeholders as the state approaches electioneering. The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has issued timetable of activities for the 2023 general elections.

“Following this development, we have delivered the regular high octane patrols across the state, intelligence and stop-and-search and technological aids surveillance for crowd management before, during and after campaign.

“Political parties should submit details of their campaign schedules to include dates and routes for adequate security provision. I have warned officers to shun corruption by stopping extorting the public.

They should build good relationship with the public.”
