From Bamigbola Gbolagunte, Akure

There is anxiety in Ondo as the two major political parties in the state, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and the All Progressives Congress (APC) prepare for the governorship primaries.
Both parties have commenced mobilisation ahead of the primary election scheduled for August 22 and 27 respectively.
The situation has also led to improved security in major parts of the state as security agents, especially the police are strategically located in various parts of the state apparently to prevent influx of thugs.
While 18 people have obtained the governorship nomination forms of the APC out of the 51 contestants, four persons were said to have obtained the PDP’s nomination forms.
The state secretariats of the two parties have been a beehive of activities since last week as various groups continue to emerge from the parties, with various activities organised by the groups. The APC state secretariat located on Oyemekun Road, Akure had since weekend been hosting prominent members of the party from within and outside the state, just as the PDP secretariat also hosted dignitaries within the party.
