President of Association of Professional Bodies of Nigeria (APBN), Dr. Omede Idris, has commended the Federal Government, following the Federal Executive Council’s recent approval for certification of all professional bodies, from within and outside the country, by relevant professional regulatory body, before they are allowed to practice, in Nigeria.

This has been long time call and expectation of APBN and various professional bodies.

The APBN President called on the various regulatory bodies to seize this opportunity to sanitize the professions. Doing this, he said, will put more check on quackery.

He equally commended the Federal Government’s policy document on the use of ‘Made in Nigeria’ goods and services, calling on government and the people to be sincere, patriotic and institutionalize these current resolve and approval in the overall interest of the country.

The APBN President made this call during the investiture of Engr (Dr) C.A. Ezeagu as the Chairman of APBN Anambra state Chapter along with other members of the state Executive of APBN last week.

The APBN President, commended the state government for her giant strides in infrastructural development, very good road network in the state, the agricultural breakthrough and a well secured state amongst others.

The Anambra state Governor, Chief Willie Obiano, represented by the Commissioner of Lands, Sir Soky Moka, congratulated APBN, the New Executive and called on the professionals to maintain ethics, standard, be focused and committed in their practices. Government, on her part will continue to collaborate with the association in relevant areas, stating that the importance of Professional to state and national development cannot be overemphasized. The Anambra state Speaker of House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Rita Madugwu called for synergy between APBN and the legislature for appropriate legal frame work that borders on professionalism.

The Keynote Speaker, Dr J.I Odumodu, MFR, Former Director- General Standard Organization of Nigeria, (S.O.N) while speaking on ‘Transforming to a Modern Society; Agenda for the South East,defined modern society as an industrialized, wealthy, highly urbanized and highly literate society.

He called on the South East to look inwards and regain lost glory of development by investing within the zone in Agriculture, Mining, Manufacturing, Infrastructural expansion, Transport sector, Education and Training either individually, but most significantly through partnership amongst individuals, companies and government .These are fundamental to transform to a modern society.

The inaugurated Chairman of APBN Anambra state chapter, Engr (Dr) C.A. Ezeagu, in his acceptance speech, thank everyone. APBN under his leadership plans to improve her visibility and activities in the state. He called for the cooperation of all.

Other highlights of the program were awards to deserving citizen of the state for excelling in the service. The awardees include the Speaker of the State House of Assembly, Commissioner of Agriculture, Mechanization, Processing and Export;  Former DG of S.O.N and Immediate past state chairman of APBN.
