AHEAD of the January 28 by-election into the House of Representatives to fill the vacant seat of Etsako Federal Constituency, the All Progressives Congress (APC) and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), yesterday, elected their candidates for the election.
While the APC elected former member of the Edo State House of Assembly, Johnson Oghuma, as its candidate, the PDP chose former Special Assistant on Youths and Students Matters to ex-president Goodluck Jonathan, Jude Imagwe as its flag bearer.
Oghuma was announced as the candidate of the APC by the Chairman of the electoral committee, Senator Bala Ibn Na’Ala, at the Ikelebe Sports Complex in Etsako West Local Government Area of the state.
He scored 334 votes to defeat his opponent, Blessing Agbomhere, who scored 75 votes. There were two void votes.
Agbomhere, however, expressed displeasure over the conduct of the primary election.
But the Deputy Governor of the state, Philip Shuaibu, commended the outcome of the primary and appreciated the party members for their support.
At the PDP primary, Jude Imagwe was declared winner after other aspirants in the race conceded the ticket to him.
Commenting on the outcome of the primary, state chairman of the PDP, Chief Dan Orbih, said Imagwe has a strong support base and would provide good leadership at the National Assembly.
