All is now set for the governorship primaries of both the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) and the All Progressives Congress (APC) scheduled to take place, on Sunday.
In Benue, while the PDP is holding their primary at the Aper Aku Stadium, the venue for the APC primary according to its State Publicity Secretary, James Ornguga is the Precious Events Center, Makurdi.
While the PDP is fielding seven aspirants for the governorship race, five aspirants would be slugging it out on the platform of the APC.
Those who are contesting on the platform of the PDP include the incumbent Governor, Samuel Ortom, former NAFDAC boss, Dr. Paul Orhii, former Registrar of COREN, Engr. Felix Atume, former Speaker, Barr. Dave Iorhemba.
Others are former Commissioner for Lands & Surv. John Tondo, Dr. Tivlumun Nyitse and Prof. Tor Joseph Iorapuu.
On the platform of the APC, former House of Representatives member and Managing Director of Nigeria Export Promotion Zone Agency NEPZA, Barr. Emmanuel Jime, former Special Adviser on Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Titus Zam and Dr.Steven Hwande as well as Arc. Asema Achado and former Majority Leader of the state House of Assembly, Benjamin Adanyi.
At the time of filing this report, non of the aspirants have indicated any intentions to step down for another as all aspirants have vowed to go into the contest without fear or favour of godfatherism.
Speaking to our correspondent on his level of preparedness, Benue State governor, Samuel Ortom said that he has adequately prepared himself to go into the primary election with all other aspirants of the party.
The governor who spoke through his Chief Press Secretary, Terver Akase, assured that the primaries of the PDP would be free, fair and credible, adding that the Governor as the leader of the party in the state had put necessary machinery in place to ensure a level playing field for all the contestants.
“Governor Samuel Ortom is very much prepared for the PDP primaries tomorrow because he has served the people very well and had performed very well when you compare the resources at his disposal and the security challenges he had faced and had demonstrated a right leadership style for any good leader would provide for his people”.
“The governor is going into the election with those credentials and as a leader who have the backing of his people and as an aspirant who have massive support across the 23 LGAs of the state and very confident of his victory.
“Even as the leader of the PDP in the state, the governor had pledged to allow for equal level playing ground for all his co-contestants to test their popularity in the field and l believe the election would be hitch free.
Akase who called on the security agencies to ensure a peaceful atmosphere throughout the period of the primaries, urged them to arrest anyone found causing trouble no matter how highly placed.
