“I was here to meet with Senator Iyiola Omisore to seek his support for the PDP in the Thursday’s governorship re-run election,” Saraki stated.

The ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) and the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) have engaged the governorship candidate of the Social Democratic Party (SDP) in Osun State, Senator Iyiola Omisore in discussions with a view to gaining his support ahead of Thursday’s governorship re-run election.

Senate President Dr Bukola Saraki led some PDP senators including Biodun Olujimi (Ekiti East), Rafiu Ibrahim (Kwara South) and Dr Doyin Okupe to meet Omisore at his country home in Ile-Ife Monday.

Also at the meeting were SDP chieftains Dr Yemi Farounbi, Alhaji Jelili Adesiyan, who was a former Minister of Police Affairs, and Chief Sogo Agboola.

The meeting, which was held behind closed doors, it was gathered was aimed at negotiating with Omisore to ensure that he works for the PDP governorship candidate, Senator Ademola Adeleke during the election re-run

The Senate President, speaking after the encounter, declared that the meeting was successful.

“I was here to meet with distinguished Senator Iyiola Omisore to seek his support for the PDP in the Thursday’s governorship re-run election in Osun State, and we thank God the meeting was successful,” Saraki stated.

When asked of the response of Omisore to his request, Saraki said “the meeting was highly successful and promising. That is why you see us laughing together after the meeting. I can assure you that the meeting was promising and it will help Osun State.”

“It was a promising meeting for Osun State and we do hope that the outcome of the meeting will help democracy and help Osun State,” Saraki, a PDP presidential aspirant, said.

However, Omisore disclosed that he has not given his word on whether or not he will work for the PDP in the re-run election.

“We have our own action plan in the SDP. The APC has come to us, so also the PDP. We are yet to take any decision on the matter. When the decision is taken we will let you know,” Omisore said.
