The All Progressives Congress (APC) has congratulated governor-elect, Chief Rotimi Akeredolu and Hon. Agboola Ajayi, deputy governor-elect, respectively, on their victory in last weekend’s Ondo State governorship election.
National Chairman of the party, Chief John Odigie-Oyegun, personally signed a statement on behalf of the National Working Committee (NWC) and expressed gratitude to “the good people of Ondo State for their impressive turnout and peaceful conduct during the election.” Oyegun, who equally thanked President Muhammadu Buhari and other party leaders “for their invaluable support towards winning the governorship election,” called for calm and appealed to opposition parties and their candidates to accept defeat in good faith.
Senate President, Bukola Saraki, has also congratulated Akeredolu. In a statement by his Special Adviser, Media and Publicity, Yusuph Olaniyonu, the  Senate President said  Akeredolu’s victory did not come to him as surprise “going by his excellent credentials and years of preparedness for governance.”
Speaker of the House of Representatives, Yakubu Dogara, said he believes Akeredolu’s victory is proof that the APC is still popular among Nigerians. “Akeredolu’s election and the APC in Ondo is clear indication of the popularity of our political party,” Dogara said in a statement issued by his Special Adviser on Media and Public Affairs, Turaki Hassan.
Imo State Governor and Chairman of the APC Governors’ Forum, Rochas Okorocha described Akeredolu’s victory as “confirmation of the party’s popularity in the South West and support for president Buhari.”
