The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ebonyi state has called on the Inspector General of Police, Mohammed Adamu and the Director General, Department of State Services (DSS), Yusuf Bichi, to direct thorough investigation of the allegation made by Governor David Umahi of plots by the opposition to bomb some local government offices of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in the state.
The governor had at a press conference in Abakaliki, on Thursday, said that intelligence information available to him indicated that some hoodlums were hired by some unscrupulous politicians to bomb the INEC offices so as to pave way for electoral fraud in the state. He did not however, name the Local Government Areas.
But in a swift reaction, the opposition described the allegation as “strange, ridiculous, unfounded and infantile and ominously conveyed the classical character of a witch crying in the night to signal an impending death of a child in the morning.”
Director General of the Senator Sonni Ogbuoji Campaign Organisation, Senator Anthony Agbo in a statement obtained by Saturday Sun in Enugu, yesterday, said considering what had happened in the state in recent times, “deep fear is raised if this accusation is not a directional compass pointing to another mayhem stewing in the restlessly violent cauldron of the PDP in Ebonyi State. And we call on the security agencies in the State to immediately investigate the alarm.
“We therefore, without hesitation call on the Department of State Security (DSS) and the Office of the Inspector General of Police to urgently investigate this spurious, suspicious and ominous alarm and come up with open statement on their findings.”
Meanwhile, the State Publicity Secretary of APC, Nwoba Chika Nwoba has appealed to the Chief of Army Staff, Lt. General Tukur Buratai to withdraw the soldiers allegedly attached to the governor.
“We request that the chief of army staff uses his office and withdraw the military officers stationed at the home of the governor in Uburu whom he practically used in brutalizing the senatorial candidate of our party for Ebonyi South District, Prince Onu Nweze last Saturday in his Uburu country home which left our candidate unconscious for some hours,” he stated.
