In less than 72 hours to the Saturday’s presidential and National Assembly elections, an All Progressives Congress (APC) supporter in Enugu State, Mr. Chukwuemeka Ishienyi, has been reportedly shot dead.

Ishienyi a native of Eha Alumona, in Nsukka Local Government Area of the state was killed while returning from a meeting.

Ishienyi, 24, was the only son of his mother. It was gathered that he was a strong supporter of PDP before he defected to APC a few months ago.

Addressing newsmen, the APC Chairman in Eha Uno, Mr. Lawrence Alumina, said that before his death, Ishienyi about a month ago, told him how he and his friends were disenchanted with the PDP and wanted to join the APC.

“He came to me one day and said that they did not like what PDP was doing and that they wanted to switch over to APC,” he said.

“According to him, since he and his group joined the APC, they had been receiving threatening calls and messages warning them to be careful.

“He said they had been threatening and warning him to be careful.  He said since then he had not been sleeping in the community.  But I didn’t know that this could lead to death and now see what has happened,” he lamented.

Alumona said that on the day the boy died, he had told him that he was invited to a meeting, but he never returned from the meeting alive. He was shot dead as he was returning home,” he said.

Meanwhile, the PDP ward chairman for Eha Uno, Austin Odo, has said that he never called Ishienyi to any meeting, pointing out that there had been a series of support-group meetings going on here and there; that he must have attended one of the meetings before his death.

“I am aware of the incident but I did not call for any meeting.  There have been a series of meetings of support-groups.  He might have attended one of them when the incident happened. He was one of our strong supporters,” Odo said.

When contacted, the police spokesman for Enugu State police command, Ebere Amaraizu, confirmed the incident.

He said that police had commenced investigation into the incident with a view to unraveling those behind the murder.
