Tunde Omolehin, Sokoto

Sokoto State Governor Alhaji Aminu Waziri Tambuwal has claimed that the main opposition party in the state, All Progressive Congress (APC), used its control of the federal machinery against his candidature in the just concluded general elections.

The governor complained that never in the history of the state have elections been as militarized as the 2019 general elections were.

He disclosed this when receiving members of Inter Party Advisory Council (IPAC) as well as the Coalition of United Political Parties (CUPP), Sokoto State chapter, who led their members on a solidarity visit to the governor.

The members included 42 political parties chairmen and 32 governoship candidates who contested against Tambuwal in the election.

He assured the visitors that his second term in government will emphasise inclusiveness, where every stakeholder will have the opportunity to contribute.

“Let me assure you again that this government is for the people of the state, which is going to be a unity government,” Governor Tambuwal stated.

“I call on everyone of you, either APC, KOWA or any other party, to bring forward your ideas, we would listen to you.

“I congratulate you, my fellow contestants, 32 of you are here. Some of you will be called upon to be part of this administration.

“All the outlined programmes you have designed will be definitely looked into and worked upon,” he assured.

Earlier in his address, the state chairman of IPAC, Alhaji Ibrahim Garba Mabera, commended the governor for not only defeating the state APC candidate, but the 51 other party candidates competing.

Alhaji Ibrahim, who is also the state chairman of KOWA party, described Tambuwal’s reelection as a sign of God’s endorsement.

“This is a sign of what God has destined, we all accept our fate and are here today to assure you of our continuous support,” he said.

“The patience you have exercised in governing this state, we pray to God to continue to give you more of it so as to continue to succeed.”
