Katsina State Women wing of the All Progressives congress (APC) has commended the state government for empowering 10,000 women in the last two years.

The state APC woman leader, Hajiya Safiya Daura, made this known in an interview in Daura, Katsina state, on Thursday.

According to her, each woman received N10,000 to enable them set up small businesses that will boost their economies and reduce over dependence on their husbands.

Daura said some of the women were also provided with empowerment tools such as sewing machines, local sphaghetti making machines and groundnut oil processing equipments.

Sshe added that the state government had trained 1,500 women on vocational skills, including tailoring, catering, poultry farming, groundnut oil processing and paint making.

She said the beneficiaries had since been provided with working tools and seed capital for them to commence business, stressing that women never had it better than this time.

The state APC chairperson commended the efforts of the Commissioner for Environment, Alhaji Hamza Faskari, donating N3.5 million to empower women.

She said her office had disbursed the money to 200 women in the rural areas to empower them economically, stressing that each of the beneficiaries received N10,000.

She urged the state government to borrow a leaf from the neighbouring states by engaging in marrying up the daughters of the less privileged members of the society.

She said the gesture, if implemented, would reduce the ‘battalion’ of unmarried women in the street as well as promote social security and provide succour to their parents.

Daura reiterated the commitment and dedication of women to support the good policies and programes of Federal and the state governments.

She gave kudos to President Muhammadu Buhari for returning peace in the North-East and giving priority to agriculture, and called on women to key into the Federal Government’s Anchor Borrower programme.

She said the policy would alleviate poverty and make the Nigerian economy dependable and sustainable, stressing  that “we are supporting Mr. President on his efforts to diversify the economy of this nation.

Daura  called on Nigerians, especially women to continue to pray for the safe return of Buhari, adding that there were lofty programmes for women under this administration. (NAN)
