The Metropolitan Catholic Archbishop of Onitsha, Most Rev. Valerian Okeke, has told the inmates of Onitsha Correctional Centre that God has a purpose for bringing them to their current situation.

Delivering his homily at the facility during the celebration of his 69th birthday, the archbishop challenged the inmates and others to give thanks to God in any situation they found themselves.

According to him, the various ways of showing gratitude to God include forgiving those that offended a person, helping others one is better than, stopping the evil the person does, among other ways.

Referring to the bible, Archbishop Okeke said David did not kill King Saul when God delivered him into his hand, stating that it was a form of thanksgiving for all the protection God granted him in spite of attempts by Saul to kill him.

While presenting various gift items, he assured that the skills acquisition centre he began building for the inmates would be ready this year.

The Controller of Corrections, Anambra State Command, in his speech lauded Archbishop Okeke for his contribution to lift the facility.
