In order to boost the morale of soldiers fighting Boko Haram insurgency in the North-East, the Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lieutenant General Tukur Buratai has commissioned the Soldiers Club at the 7 Division headquarters of the Nigerian Army, Maimalari Barrack in Maiduguri.
Also commissioned as part of encouraging relation with the media is a studio for the Nigeria Television Authority (NTA) Maiduguri Zonal Network Centre.
Commissioning the Soldiers Club at the weekend, Buratai said the provision of such edifice was part of the welfare package for officers and troops. He commended the Commandant of the counter-insurgency operation in the North-East (Operation Lafiya Dole), Brigadier General Victor Irabor for a job well done.
The COAS advised soldiers to make judicious use of the club to relax when they are back from the battle field, noting that the edifice is provided with all the modern facilities for relaxation.
He directed the Commandant to instal three additional air conditioners in the club.
In his welcome address, Irabor disclosed that in order to achieve the task of clearing the North-East of Boko Haram, the COAS gave approvals for the total overhauling of the Soldiers Club.
He noted that this was to ensure that soldiers have a befitting centre of relaxation whenever they are back from the battle field. He said it was a great honour that the COAS was at hand to commission it.
During the commissioning of the NTA Studio Complex, the COAS said the decision to donate the studio based on the importance the Nigerian Army gives to information dissemination.
