The Nigerian Army said it has concluded plans to establish a special corps for its female officers and soldiers.

Chief Of Army Staff (COAS), Lieutenant-General Tukur Buratai, who made this known, said the establishment of special corps was in recognition of the competence and capacity of the female soldier and in line with global best practices.

He said it is aimed at developing professionally responsive female officers and soldiers to support the Nigerian Army in its operational engagement, adding that the corps when established would afford female soldiers the opportunity to be deployed in security operations within and outside the country.

He said: “The corps will give the Nigerian Army an opportunity to recognise the women in order to derive the maximum benefit from their contributions to the defence and security of our nation.”
