World number 15 ranked table tennis player and Nigeria’s Aruna Quadri has been sent packing from the ongoing Birmingham 2022 Commonwealth Games.

Paul Drinkhall ranked 74 in the world stole the show, by upsetting Aruna by 10-12, 11-8, 7-11,4-11 and 9-11 points in the men’s singles quarter final tie.

Drinkhall enjoyed much success as a youngster, winning numerous national championships at his age level, and at levels above his own age. This success did not go unnoticed, as he was shortlisted for BBC Young Sports Personality of the Year in 2005, and finished in second place after Theo Walcott in 2006. He was again shortlisted for this award in 2007. He once again finished in 2nd place in 2007.
