Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Boss Mustapha, has expressed optimism that the Academic Staff Union of University (ASUU) would soon call off its over five months strike to allow students return to schools.
“We have no justification to keep out children from schools for five months; we believe that in the soonest, our wards will go back to school because we don’t want to produce half-baked graduates,’’ he said.
Mustapha stated this when the President of Nation Council of Women Society (NCWS) Hajiya Lami Lau, led members of the Women in National Service (WINSERVE) Week Implementation Committee to visit him in his Abuja office.
He also urged Nigerians to show concern on the current security challenges bedevilling the country. He said insecurity is a thing of concern since all Nigerians were affected.
“I want to appeal to Nigerians to take the issue of security as everybody’s business, It’s not government business, everyone has a role. Constitutionally, government has the responsibility of providing for the security and wellbeing of the people, but the people have a role to play. Security is everybody’s business and we should take it as such and it starts from the home,’’ he said.
Mustapha said bandits came from homes with mothers and fathers and that they did not drop from heaven. He said the current insecurity in the nation was due to negligence of family values.
“As parents and caregivers, we have neglected our duties and family values, everybody is busy, both father and mother, just to get the good things of life. So I believe that we all have a role to play,’’ he said.
Earlier, the NCWS president, Lau appealed to government at all levels to address the insecurity in Nigeria, adding that it was gradually destroying the country.
“I want to appeal to politicians to close ranks, and put national interest above all sentiments and face these problems squarely in the same way they face party delegates. The issues of security and education must be taken seriously in like manner,’’ she said.
Although the general message of the SGF-Boss Mustapha called the attention of all the stakeholders in education sector to reflects on the patriotic inspirational message of the Nigerian National Pledge especially its clause “To be Faithful Loyal and Honest” while key aspects therein dwelled on “To Serve Nigerians with all My Strength” However by virtue of the office of the SGF It was morally and legally wrong for Boss Mustapha to Play a role of either an Arbitrator or a Moderator on matter between FG and ASUU at a critical stages where the Armed Forces and other security agencies are the only People that ARE SERVING NIGERIANS WITH ALL THEIR STRENGTH while ASUU Gestures on their regular strikes action are directly saying TO SERVE NIGERIANS IS NOT BY FORCES so the ambiguity and complexity of “WE have no Justification to keep out children from schools for five months” requires explanation on Who really keep out children from schools for five months? Is it Federal Government? Is it Parents/Family? or Is it ASUU?.
Without Prejudices to the Patriotic sacrifices of the Armed Forces and other security agencies in ensuring Law and order as a result of poor leadership and Bad Democratic Governance which keep render their sacrificial efforts useless and meaningless in a security atmosphere where the security agencies are direct victims of very Bad Democratic Governance, The Armed forces and other security agencies has Patriotic Justification to either Go on Strike or Bloodily takeover Government Still they together continues dieying every day and Why?.
Whether The SGF says” WE or specifically Mentioned ASUU The truth of the education sector fundamental crisis as well DIAGNOSED can never reach meaningful solutions in the next 20years because the BEDROCK of education in Nigeria had Collapsed decades ago while the endless crisis rocking ASUU are SYMPTOMATIC to the collapsed of PRIMARY AND SECONDARY EDUCATION in Nigeria because the unwise notions where The Democratic Leadership at all levels gives priorities to University education in This 21st century without vividly understand that the BEDROCK of education required more investment in order to achieved the Millennium developmental goals in manner where Government at all levels diversified education in a direction to achieved economy diversification from the BEDROCK.
Unarguably Primary and Secondary education in developed countries are Compursary while University education remained a just matter of an individual choice because these developed Countries attained the global status as developed countries by ensures that Primary and Secondary schools graduates have teeming employment opportunities with their levels of literacy and possibly skills not as it practices in Nigeria where its citizens has no any skills until after years in the university and after graduation from universities then enrolled for Political skills training to be self employed, The question now is at what age? This is 21st century FOOLISHNESS not an education at all.
There are famous Billionaire, Actors, Musicians, Footballers and Sportsmen as well as industrialist in Nigeria and all over the world whom never attended University in their life while some of them are Philanthropist and some are even patron to some charity organizations.
There are also documentary videos in the internet which showed how China, Germany and Australia etc ensures that primary and Secondary schools students are engage in different productivities in Factories, Sports as Business, Construction, Commercial Farms, engineering workshops at a very young age not after graduation from universities.
Whether half bake graduate or full bake graduate the question still remained that Is university education compursary? Why is it there is no employment opportunities for primary and Secondary schools graduates in Nigeria? Why is it over 85% graduates go back to learn skills after university education which directly rendered their years in the university as wasted exercise? About all Why ASUU does not Strike on behalf of teeming annual unemployed graduates that are often become subject of ridicules by Government at all levels in barbaric names of acquire skills? Or is these not a mockery of university education?
