The presidential candidate of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), Alhaji Atiku Abubarka has emerged winner of the presidential election in Ondo State.
Atiku defeated the presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), President Muhammadu Buhari in 11 out of the 18 local government areas in the state.
The former vice president polled a total vote of 275,901 to defeat Buhari who polled 241,769.
Also, the senatorial candidate of the PDP in Ondo Central senatorial district, Ayo Akinyelure defeated the incumbent senator representing the area, Tayo Alasoadura, and former governor of the state, Olusegun Mimiko.
However, the senator representing Ondo North senatorial district, Prof Ajayi Boroffice defeated the candidates of the Action Alliance (AA), Dr Tunji Abayomi and that of the PDP, Segun Alonge.
The state governor, Mr Rotimi Akeredolu allegedly sponsored the AA candidate who was until his defection to the AA the chairman, Governing Council of the state- owned Adekunle Ajasin University,
Akungba-Akoko.
The crisis in the APC which was occasioned by the automatic ticket given to all the three senators representing the state was said to be responsible for Abayomi’s defection which was alleged to be at the instance of Governor Akeredolu.
