Speaker, Nasarawa State House of Assembly, Hon. Balarabe Abdullahi, has described President Mohammadu Buhari as a hero of democracy for granting assent to the law on financial autonomy for state houses of Assemblies in Nigeria.
He said that the decision has placed the president as the best leader so far the country has produced, noting that previous leaders in the country did not bother about the plight of the state lawmakers.
The Speaker also commended members of the 8th National Assembly for the commitment they have shown by passing the bill granting independence to state assemblies in Nigeria and the state judiciary.
He explained that granting independence to state lawmakers would help fast track legislative duties without banking on the executive for funding.
Hon. Abdullahi said President Buhari would go down in the history of Nigeria as a president who granted financial autonomy to states houses of assemblies and the judiciary, adding that this kind gesture has proved that the president was committed to deepening Nigerian democracy.
He equally commended President Muhammadu Buhari for recognising MKO Abiola as the winner of the June 12th 1993 presidential election and for declaring the day as Democracy Day in Nigeria.
“I commend President Mohammadu Buhari for posthumously awarding the highest honour of GCFR to late MKO Abiola, his running mate Ambassador Babagana Kingibe and Late Gani Fawehinmi (SAN) with GCON for their struggle for democracy in Nigeria,” he said.
