African American Monica Ellis, of Atlanta, Georgia, United States of America, has been crowned as the new African recently at the Glamorous Royal Honour Gala of the D’CEM Awards USA, organised by the famous Debby Classique magazine.
The new honour for Ellis is an African community recognition and a call to work as a bridge between the African and African American communities to foster peace, love and unity.
Following the honour, Ellis is also bequeathed a new identity, Nkechinyere, an Igbo name from Nigeria meaning “God’s gift.”
The Glamours Awards ceremony was hosted by popular Nigerian actors Omalicha Chuks and Ijeoma Orji, while the crowning ceremony was officiated by Dr Debby Goodnews Silas, founder of Debby Classique magazine and organiser of the D’CEM Awards USA, assisted by Mrs Ego Ajiero, a Nigerian resident in America.
Ellis, who was delighted to share the news of her new crowning as African Queen of Excellence, expressed happiness and pride at being welcomed into the Nigerian community.She also disclosed that her ancestral DNA result showed that she is 44 percent Nigerian.
The African American proudly announced “My new African name is now Queen Nkechi,” affirmed that her reign as the Africa Queen of Excellence would be dedicated to promoting peace, love, and unity, not only within the African American and African communities but also worldwide through her Nkechi’s Heart initiative.
“Some of my dreams are to go to my native Nigeria and contribute to schools, create lupus awareness with some support, help some families with autistic kids and provide school essential supplies and personal care products,” she said.
Queen Nkechi, who declared her dedication to providing teenage girls with the best quality sanitary napkins, further said: “Let us collectively pledge to make 2024 a year marked by the gift of peace, unity, love, and hope. I am sincerely grateful to Dr. Debby Goodnews, CEO of Debby Classique Magazine, for this has given me a wonderful opportunity, to use her brand to bridge this cultural gap and unite communities one heart at a time.”
The D’CEM Awards celebrate excellence in arts, movies, and philanthropy. The annual event celebrates various nominees and honorees for their contribution to industry and society, with the “Queen of Excellence,” categories reserved as honour for powerful women who exemplify black excellence.
Monica Nkechi Ellis envisions her reign dedicated to promoting peace, love, and unity not only within the African American and African communities, helping to bridge the gap between the two communities, but also extending these virtues to communities worldwide through her Nkechi’s Heart initiative.
