Elder statesman, Chief Chuks Muoma, a senior advocate, has admonished Nigerian politicians to learn to keep to agreements whether written or gentlemanly.

Speaking on the internal problems rocking the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) following the conclusion of its presidential primaries, and the allegations of wrong doings levelled against the party’s National Chairman, Iyorchia Ayu, Muoma lamented that Nigerian politicians do not trust one another or honour agreements.

He urged the PDP to put its house in order ahead of next year’s general elections by listening to Rivers State governor, Nyesom Wike, and his group, and remedying the problems they were complaining about.

“He (Wike) seems blunt and truthful. He may lack the decorum of expression, but has the truth and facts. Our problem is that those in politics in Nigeria see it as an occupation, a profession. Our elders in politics should make way for the youths. People should know when to throw in the towel, go to rest and allow the younger ones to take over. That’s what we want for Nigeria now, to enable it grow,” he said.

Muoma said Nigeria was currently misgoverned and needed a saviour to wrest power from the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), which he said was a disaster.

The senior lawyer said: “Nigeria is in a mess. To come out of it, we must pursue truth, principles of justice, patriotism and purge ourselves of ethnic consciousness, which is tribalism. APC government is a disaster, and the sooner we rid ourselves of it, the better.”

According to him, what Nigeria needs at this moment is the election of a government that will be truthful, competent and nationalist in nature, not minding the tribe from which the leader might emerge from.

The onetime Legal Adviser of Ohaneze Ndigbo Worldwide, said among those clamouring to be elected in next year’s polls as president, the candidate of the Labour Party, Mr. Peter Obi, is the most qualified, in view of his known credentials and acceptability nationwide.

“If we are looking for a patriotic, detribalised leader in 2023, then Peter Obi and Datti Ahmed, are most qualified, far ahead of Atiku/Okowa (PDP) and Tinubu/Shettima (APC), groupings. Peter Obi is most qualified than Atiku and Tinubu. Age is on his side. He is young, strong, humble and very sound academically than them and also, with a cleaner record in the service of the country,” Muoma opined.
