Governor Muhammad Abubakar Badaru of Jigawa State, on Thursday, commissioned 27 newly constructed Primary Health Care (PHC) centres with 27 midwife staff quarters in the state.

Speaking at the ceremony held at Jaudi village area Dutse, Governor Badaru said the effort was in line with the President Muhammad Buhari’s agenda of providing at least one functional Primary health care centre in each  political ward in the country.

He explained that the 27 constructed PHC which is under the Universal health coverage programme involved the provision of appropriate health infrastructures, relevant health human resources, functional essential equipments and supplies that would address the primary health care needs of the rural population on 24 hours basis.

Governor Badaru maintained that, his administration inherited Jigawa state health sector with unfavorable health indices that was characterized with complicated and dwindling revenue.

His words “Despite the economic melt-down we have no option than to face our problem head on with view to relieving our esteem population out of disease and poverty to meet the National Health Act requirements”.

“In view to meet the requirements in Jigawa, health sector enjoys the second largest budgetary allocation as over 15 percent are targeted to provide number of new projects and complete the inherited ones” he said.

Governor Badaru further revealed that, his administration equally sponsored sixty less privileged students to study medicine in the Republic of China.

He added that school of nursing students are similarly being considered out of which the state government will adopt119 midwives from Sure-P and midwives service scheme of national Primary health care Development Agency.

“We have just concluded recruitment of 450 primary health care workers and we will soon commence the recruitment of doctors, nurses, midwives and pharmacists in the state” he said.

He then commended the National and international partners that supported the state government in achieving its desired goal of turning Jigawa to a better and healthy place.
