From Mohammed Munirat Nasir, Gusau
Zamfara state governor, Dr Bello Mohammed Matawalle has disclosed that the ongoing carrot and stick approach initiative of his administration was based on 3D formula which is dialogue, disarmament and deradicalization.
Matawalle made the disclosure at the Government House, Gusau while receiving three repentant notorious bandits from Bakura local government area who surrendered AK47 rifles, 20 ammunitions and took oath to be good citizens of the state.
“The first stage is dialogue with the bandits and now we are the the disarmament stage and finally we will embark on deradicalization process,” he said.
The governor said the weapons surrendered by the bandits indicates that the carrot and stick initiative of the state government is yielding desired results because leaving the dangerous weapons in the hands the bandits in the bush will cause a lot of havoc.
“By bringing them to the security agencies, we have reduced their capacity and capability. Allowing these weapons to carry their weapons round to communities, cross-border to other states, that is what has made Nigeria be in the hot seat as of today,” he said
Matawalle said the use of kinetic and non kinetic approach is inline with his administration’s policy of ensuring lasting peace is achieved in the state.
Speaking on behalf of the three repentant bandits, Ahmadu Karkare promised to reached out more unrepentant bandits in the bush and convince them to accept the peace process.
