Barcelona and Atletico Madrid will continue their title race when round 28 of the 2018/19 La Liga season holds over the weekend March 15- 17, 2019.
Barcelona continued to lead the way at the top of the standings with a seven-point advantage over Atletico. The teams claimed respective 3-1 and 1-0 home wins over Rayo Vallecano and Leganes this past weekend.
Diego Simeone’s side will once again be in action earlier than the leaders, giving them the chance to close the gap down to four points, when they face Athletic Bilbao at San Mames Barria on Saturday. The Basque hosts had failed to win either of their last two La Liga matches, but would be tough opponents for the Rojiblancos, as they often lift their game for the visit of Spain’s heavyweights.
Barcelona will only be in action on Sunday, when they visit Estadio Benito Villamarin to face hosts Real Betis. Los Verdiblancos come into the match on the back of a 1-0 win away to Celta de Vigo, but they had failed to win any of their last four home matches across all competitions.
Real Madrid, who looked as if they would be able to coast home in a disappointing third place, could well have a new manager by the time they welcome Celta de Vigo to Estadio Santiago Bernabeu on Saturday.
Santiago Solari remained in charge at the time of writing, and oversaw their 4-1 away win at Real Valladolid this past Sunday, but it is widely expected that Los Blancos will axe him following their shambolic exit from the UEFA Champions League at the hands of Ajax last week. Jose Mourinho is the favourite to take over the hot seat.
