PAUL OMOKUVIE BAUCHI

There was jubilation among supporters as Bauchi State governor-elect,

Senator Bala Mohammed, his Deputy, Senator Baba Tela, and the 31 elected

members of the Bauchi State House of Assembly were issued their certificates of return by the Independent National Electoral Commission.

They comprised of 22 All Progressives Congress, 8 People’s

Democratic Party, and one New Nigeria People’s Party members.

Speaking during a vote of thanks on behalf of all the elected members at the Prof. Mahmood Yakubu Conference Hall INEC headquarters, on Saturday, the governor-elect described his victory as the work of God.

He said: “We must know that we have a responsibility, first to God and to the people. We must be sincere in our pronouncements and in the fulfilment of our promises and indeed, we must be grateful to the people.

“It is not money, it is not power that brought us to this position, it is the will of God. We must remain grateful to the beautiful people of Bauchi State for bringing us to this stage.

“Definitely, we are not going to betray the trust bestowed upon us. My bosses, the elected members of the House of Assembly would work assiduously towards rescuing Bauchi from the woods.”

He promised that he will not denigrate and denounce those he and other members defeated at the polls, adding that he would extend his hands of fellowship to them to join his government in building the state.

“They should come on board and help in building Bauchi. Maybe their inadequacies and limitations are not enough, and we should not in our own terms, make the same mistake,” he stated.

He admitted that he has a big burden of taking Bauchi State to greater heights.

Mohammed expressed gratitude to INEC for remaining firm during the conduct of the elections despite “the pressures and the hiccups, the blames and the vicissitudes, and the other things that happened behind the scenes.
