The Police in Bauchi State have arrested a 33-year-old man who allegedly stabbed two people leaving one dead and the other critically injured while celebrating the declaration of Senator Bala Mohammed as the governor-elect of the state.

The Public Relations Officer, Bauchi State Command, Kamal Abubabakar, said that the suspect was arrested by operatives of the Yelwa divisional police headquarters in the early hours of Tuesday.

He explained that the suspect, Mohammed Bako, a resident of Yelwan Makaranta, Bauchi, attempted to steal motorcycles but the people of the area raised an alarm forcing him to take to his heels.

The PPRO said: “On March 25, 2019, at 23:30 hours, the police patrol team attached to the E Division, Yelwa, arrested one Mohammed Bako, (33) of Yelwa Makaranta. On that fateful day, the suspect attempted to steal a motorcycle at Yelwa Makaranta area when the people became suspicious and questioned him but he ran away. They chased him and in the process, he pulled a knife and stabbed Nasiri Hassan,37, of Yelwa Makaranta and Sadiq Adamu, 26, of Gwallameji.”

The police spokesman disclosed that the victims were rushed to the  Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University  Teaching Hospital (ATBUTH), Bauchi for treatment.

“Unfortunately Rabiu Hassan died while receiving treatment while Sadiq Adamu is in the same hospital,” he said.

The PPRO said that the case was under investigation after which the suspect will be charged to court.
