From Femi Folaranmi, Yenagoa THE last may not have been heard of the
governorship elections in Bayelsa state, as Governor Henry Seriake Dickson over the weekend alleged that those involved in the reported election violence, killings and wanton destruction during the polls are now holding sensitive positions as ministers and party leaders in the present administration.
Dickson, while receiving a comprehensive report of the violence and killings allegedly perpetrated during the last governorship election from a group known as Save the Ijaw Nation, declared those identified as enemies of the state, ex- pressing regrets that perpetrators of the dastardly acts were still occupying sensitive positions at the national level, while the bereaved families were still in pains of losing their loved ones.
“You have given them a face and I am happy. All the faceless deaths, the injured and the traumatized have no voices to be heard, while those who killed them, traumatized and injured them in a desperate quest for power at all cost
move on. Some are ministers, some are party leaders” Dickson noted.
He maintained that Nigeria as a nation had failed the victims of electoral violence by not using the instrumentality of the law to give them justice.
He directed the Secretary to the State Government to give a copy of the report to the Judicial Commission of Inquiry probing the elections to facilitate their assignment, just as he asked the Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice to set up a legal team to study and add flesh to the report.
