Less than one month to the commencement of the FIFA Beach Soccer World Cup tournament billed for April 27 in Bahamas, the Super Sand Eagles will on Sunday this week resume pre-tournament camping in Lagos, with an invited 20-man squad.
Chief coach of the team, Adams Audu Ejor, who made the disclosure in a chat with journalists in Abuja yesterday, said arrangements had been concluded for the camping, revealing that the team would also participate in a four-nation tournament holding in Senegal between April 14 to 17.
He further noted that having participated in four previous Beach Soccer World Cup, the team would make impact in the tournament. He was however, quick to add that he would not promise Nigerians the trophy or how far the team would go.
According to him: “The 20 invited players will report to camp on Sunday, which means that our camp officially opens on Sunday, baring any last minute change. As you know, only 12 out of the 20 invited will make the final list.
“Let me also inform you that according to our pre-tournament programme, we will be participating in a four-nation invitational tournament involving Nigeria, Morocco, Cape Verde and host country, Senegal. Apart from the invitational tournament, we will also battle Paraguay in a friendly encounter in Bahamas before the kick-off of the tournament.
“My happiness is that the invitational tournament would help put my team in the right tournament mood. We are already at advantage with the league, keeping the invited players busy. None of the players invited is match rusty.”
“Good enough, also that I have up to five to six players that have been part of the team. The new players will learn from them. The only thing that might be a challenge to me is the willingness of the clubs to release the invited players, especially with the new players. I don’t have problem with the old players because they are always ready,” he said.
