The governorship candidate of All Progressive Grand Alliance, (APGA), in Benue state, Mr. Joseph Waya, has announced the suspension of his governorship campaign flag-off for Benue North East Senatorial District to mourn the passing of the elder statesman, Wantaregh Paul Unongo.
In a statement he personally signed and made available to newsmen on Tuesday in Makurdi, Waya said the suspension of his political activities within this period was a mark of respect and honour to the deceased who was his political mentor.
“While we awalt a full statement from the family, we announce the suspension of our governorship flag-off campaign in Benue North East senatorial district to honour our political sage and fallen hero.
“Benue has lost an illustrious son. We commiserate with the entire Nation over the passing of this great patriot.
“We mourn with the Tiv Nation over the passing of this great son who epitomized the voice of the voiceless”
Ways said Unongo was a political shepherd and one that stood in the gap between the old and new political generation.
He prayed for the repose of the departed statesman and for the fortitude to bear the irreparable loss which he said was coming at a time when his wise counsel, sagacity and wealth of experience was most needed.
