The Benue State Environmental and Sanitation Agency has deployed 50 workers to clean up Gboko town, ahead of the coronation of the new Tor Tiv, slated for Saturday, March 4.

Its General Manager, Mr. Andrew Chile, on Thursday, in Makurdi, said that the sanitation workers would link up with other health services personnel to give the town a befitting look.

His words, “Lots of dignitaries are coming to witness the coronation; it is incumbent on us to ensure a clean environment to avoid any embarrassment,” he said.

Chile said that the sanitation staff had been instructed to carry out a house-to-house sanitation exercise, sweep the streets and evacuate any dirt inside every drainage and the vicinity.

He continued, “We have deployed waste disposal vans,waste bins and other tools needed to keep the environment clean. In fact, I am supervising the exercise personally,” he said.

Director in charge environment in the water resources and environment ministry, Mr Richard Adzaage,who also spoke on the exercise, said that it would be compulsory and involve every household on Thursday and Friday.

“The governor has assured me that Friday will be declared a work-free day to complete the clean-up exercise,” he said.

Former Vice Chancellor, Federal University of Agriculture, Makurdi, and first Vice Chancellor, Federal University, Dutsinma, in Katsina State, Prof. James Ayatse, who is to be installed as the 5th Tor Tiv, succeeds Dr. Alfred Torkula, who died last year. (NAN)
