Five killed, another injured in Benue village attack

Five persons have been killed and another seriously injured after a criminal gang in Ukum Local Government Area of Benue State attacked them.

Our correspondent gathered from locals that the gunmen, who were riding on motorcycles, invaded Tse Vue village after Ayati settlement in Ukum at about 9 a.m. on Thursday and killed the victims.

The attackers, who were suspected to belong to the gang of the wanted militia leader, Terwase Akwaza alias ‘Gana’ were said to have thereafter climbed their motorcycles and left the village unchallenged.

When contacted, Benue State Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), DSP Moses Yamu, confirmed the report and stated that the five people were strangulated by their assailants.

He said: “The Benue State Command received report that Tse Vue village via Ayati in Ukum LGA was attacked on 20/09/18 at about 9am by suspected Shitile militia (Gana boys).

“Operatives led by the DPO Ukum on reaching the scene, recovered five unconscious male victims, who appeared to have been strangled using ropes and one man who was injured were rushed to the hospital, the five were confirmed dead on arrival at the hospital.”

Yamu noted that the Commissioner of Police in charge of Benue State, Ene Okon, has ordered immediate investigation into the incident with a view to arresting the attackers.
