The Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) yesterday called on the Director General of Department of State Security (DSS) to resign from his job or be sacked before he drags Nigeria into another civil war.

The group said if the DSS DG was not removed, he will continue to cause more problems that could  lead to ethnic crisis, saying the security agent recently falsely accused IPOB of abducting, killing and burying five Hausa/Fulani herdsmen in shallow graves in Abia State.

A statement from IPOB Media and Publicity Secretary, Mr. Emma Powerful condemned the DSS’s action of ransacking Mr. Nnamdi Kanu’s room in Kuje Prison.

He said the continued detention of Kanu from DSS custody to Kuje prison and other pro-Biafra agitators released by the courts across the country by the security could spark  off crisis that can  cause civil war  in the country.

He stated: “IPOB is calling for the DSS DG to resign now before it is too late, if he does not resign or be sacked by the Senate, he will plunge Nigeria into another civil war.

“We, (IPOB) reiterated about the life of our leader who is being detained illegally in the DSS custody for months but now in Kuje prison and the constant alarms about plots to eliminate him.

“In view of this, the life of our leader is no longer safe in prison custody. The DSS has been digging so dip to nail our leader but no way.

“Nnamdi Kanu decided to stay with some prison inmates inside one apartment because of the constant harassment by the DSS and also the constant harassment by the DSS and prison authorities to make things difficult for him.”

The group also raised the alarm that  both the Federal Government and the security agency have concluded plans to transfer Kanu to the DSS custody or to the Maiduguri prison.

“We have it on good authority that both the Federal Government and the DSS  are planning to transfer Kanu to the DSS custody or to the Maiduguri prison in  Borno State where the Boko Haram members are detained.

“We are calling on international community, Amnesty International, all relevant human rights organisations and human rights watch to take note because if anything happens to Nnamdi Kanu, IPOB will not take it easy,” Powerful warned.
