Blood flowed in Ebonyi State, yesterday, in Onweonweiya and Mkpumaekweoku communities in Izzi Local Government Area of Ebonyi State as no fewer than three persons were killed in a communal clash. Also, property worth millions of naira were destroyed.
Daily Sun gathered that the renewed hostilities arose over ownership of a vast farmland which had been in contention between the two warring communities.
Fighters from both communities engaged each other in a fierce battle which resulted in the death of three persons while scores were injured.
Addressing newsmen shortly after visiting the warring communities, the Senior Special Assistant to the governor on Internal Security, Dr. Kenneth Ugbala confirmed that at least three persons died during the crisis.
He said the corpses were recovered by the police in the disputed farmland.
He expressed state government’s readiness to restore peace to the community by getting to the root of the matter.
Mr. Ugbala warned that the state government would deal with any faction that refused to allow peace reign in the communities, adding that with the recent development, the state government has directed relevant authorities to brief the government on the true cause of the war.
It was gathered that the dispute over the farmland had lingered over the years.
However, no arrest has been made in connection with the crisis.
