Kebbi State Governor, Senator Abubakar Atiku Bagudu has expressed deep sadness over the recent boat mishap that led to loss of lives in Samanaji Town, Koko Besse Local Government Area of Kebbi State.
A boat ferrying over 100 passengers capsized on Tuesday midway through the river in KoKo Besse Local Government, leaving about 20 passengers missing while 80 were reportedly rescued.
The governor, who visited Samanaji community, commiserated with the people of the area particularly the families of those who lost their lives in the accident.
Bagudu was accompanied by top government officials, including Minister of Justice and Attorney General of the Federation, Abubakar Malami (SAN); former Governor of Kebbi State, Alhaji Saidu Nasamu Dakingari; DG campaign, APC gubernatorial candidate Dr Nasir Idris, Kauran Gwandu, the Speaker Kebbi State House of Assembly, Muhammadu Sani Abubakar Lolo and a number of lawmakers, commissioners and local government chairmen.
In his brief condolence message, Governor Abubakar Atiku Bagudu beseeched God to admit the decease into Aljannah Firdausi and also commended the efforts of all those who rendered assistance towards the rescue operation.
He warned boat operators to always go by the rules, avoid night operations and desist from overloading passengers .
Earlier, the District Head of Dutsinmari, Alhaji MuAllayidi Usman while thanking the Governor for the condolence visit said the boat accident had so far claimed four lives, while 12 passengers were still missing. Chairman of Koko Besse Local Government Area, Yahaya Bello also thanked the governor for the visit. He said search and rescue operation was still ongoing in the area, with four dead bodies found.
All Progressives Congress governorship candidate, Dr Nasir Idris, donated N5 million to the families of the deceased.
