The Eze Ndigbo Ghana, HRM Eze Dr Chukwudi Ihenetu has commended President Muhammadu Buhari for reopening the Seme Nigeria- Benin Republic border which serves as gateway to other countries in the West Africa Sub region.
President Buhari during Federal Executive Council meeting presided over by Vice President Yemi Osinbajo through the minister of Finance, Budget and Natiomal Planning Mrs Zainab Ahmed on Wednesday said restrictions on the importation of rice and other contraband commodities remains in place.
In a statememt, the royal father said many small businesses depending on cross-border trading will now bounce back to life.
Eze Ihenetu explained that within 16 months of the border closure, West African countries including Ghana experienced serious economic downturn with most of their goods perishing at the border posts.
While describing the developement as glad tiding and Christmas gift to Nigerians, Eze Ihenetu call on all stakeholders to abide by terms of agreement by avoiding illegal bussiness transactions that could lead to the closure of the border again.
In the same vein, Eze Ihenetu call on the Ghanaian authority to reciprocate the fine gesture by opening up shops of Nigerians closed by the Ghanian Trade Union. He said with reopening of the border, volume of trades in the subregion will increase.
He appealed to Nigerians in Ghana to continue to be law abidding as the federal Government is set to extend good governance to all and sundry.
