The Supreme Court has finally sealed the hope of the All Progressives Congress (APC) to field candidates for the 2019 general election when it struck out the appeal filed by the party.

In a unanimous ruling, the court held that the appeal of the APC was status barred as it was not filed within 14 days after the judgment of the high court, as stipulated by section 285 (8) and (12) of the 1999 constitution as amended by the 4th alterations Act.

The apex court agreed with counsel to the Magnus Abe led faction, Henry Bello, that the subject matter of the appeal is a pre- election matter which is governed by the 4th alteration Act.

Meanwhile the Court has risen to give ruling in the consolidated appeals that would finally put an end to the legal dispute brought by the APC.
