Five delegates to the second national council meeting of the Niger Delta holding in Igbokoda, in Okitipupa Local Government Area of Ondo

State, have lost their lives.

The delegates, whose identities were not yet ascertained, were travelling from Akure to Igbokoda for the summit which Vice President Yemi Osibajo was to chair.

About four other delegates were injured in the accident that  occurred at Ode-Aye, a sleepy town along Okitipupa-Igbokoda Road.

Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) in the state, who confirmed the accident, said the accident was caused by high speed.

He said three vehicles were involved in the accident, adding that the vehicles were damaged beyond recognition.

The PPRO also informed that the corpses had been deposited at the mortuary of the state specialist hospital, Okitipupa, where the injured victims were also receiving treatment.

He said efforts were on by the state government and the Police to rescue the injured victims.

Meanwhile, Vice President Osinbajo has arrived the International Events

Centre, Akure for the second National council meeting on Niger Delta.

The Vice President had earlier paid a courtesy visit to the Deji of Akure, Oba Ogunlade Aladetoyinbo in his palace.

Osinbajo was received at the Akure airport by Governor Rotimi Akeredolu, and some state government officials.
